Even in the revision, our urban design for the area expands the dense structure of the old town and upgrades existing pathways.
Following the historical image of the city, the height difference found is further broken down into different levels from south to north. These are now connected in the main development from west to east by barrier-free ramps and the existing connection towards the old town is strengthened. An open staircase connects the two main levels directly.
The buildings form an accompanying spatial edge to Eberhardstraße, which is heavily used by traffic. The grain of the individual houses is taken from the cityscape and, thanks to a differentiated number of storeys, are given their focal point in the middle of the area. The free arrangement to each other takes up the qualities of found structures and forms alleys and courtyards. The moving eaves lines of the gabled and hipped roofs also lean on the surroundings and mediate with each other and with the existing building. The semi-public, two-storey split-level underground car park is located in the base of the area.
Narrowness and width, squares and alleys continue to determine the basic motif. In the revision, the focus was placed on residential use, which is supplemented by special commercial and social uses. The mostly three-sided oriented apartments offer a high quality despite the density.
In order to ensure privacy in the dense structure, the theme of terracing is also noticeable in the basement through a mezzanine floor. A decorative band with lush planting follows their geometry, forming a small plinth to the common alleys. Lush garden situations in the south and north, room extensions with play and relaxation options for residents: inside and barrier-free thoroughfares characterize the new area.
The rising facades of the buildings are given handcrafted plaster surfaces that are slightly differentiated in terms of color and structure for each building in the sense of a design that is appropriate to the local image. The openings receive wooden windows and a material sun protection. In the changing oblique view through the quarter, their slightly raised stone fascias structure the facades. Smooth eaves transitions to the metal-covered roofs, internal gutters and the absence of attached dormers give the houses a sculptural compactness and contemporary shape.
