In the north of Nuremberg, in the Thon district, the site is located in a heterogeneous environment with commercial buildings, single-family housing estates, multi-storey residential buildings and closed settlement structures.
We see the surroundings as an occasion to provide the desired development with independent typological characteristics. A high-rise building, the “Thon Tower” and an ensemble of 4 connected structures, the “Thon Plaza”, are grouped along the streets and form a city square inside. On the first floor, the group of 4 low-rise buildings is united by a generous plinth, which integrates the office entrances as well as diverse retail spaces and the civic hall.

Both the neighborhood square and the existing Müller Medien publishing building, which defines the location, can be read from the intersection and are integrated into the sequence of new buildings and open spaces. The height development is related to the scale of the adjacent buildings. The Thon Tower is staggered into two interlocking building sections. A 5-story building forms the prelude to the intersection area, which is supplemented by a 13-story high-rise building towards the city square. The Thon Plaza consists of a composition of four largely identical building volumes with 5 and 6 floors. They are connected in their interstices by generous bridges.
The facades differentiate the buildings according to their owners and later users. The urbanistic setting has the effect that especially the district square is well shielded from the noise of the street, also in the open spaces. In the north-east, the new town square connects to the intersection area with the streetcar and bus stop, as well as the cab. This transitional area simultaneously forms the prelude and readable access to the office spaces, as well as the filter between the highly frequented street area and the protected city square. Inside, adjacent to the square, are the retail and gastronomy uses as well as a divisible multifunctional area, which, supported by gastronomy, can be rented by different user groups or also used as a civic hall.
